House, "Everybody Dies" - Cancer is Boring

Housefinale

It's always hard to write about a series finale. It makes it even harder when a once great show such as House falls to such an inferior level of story telling over its run, a fall so deep that the bulk of its last two seasons became harder and harder to stomach. And even with an episode such as last week's "Holding On" or the previous week's "Post Mortem," both rather great installments compared to what we've been getting in season eight, the writers still couldn't manage to salvage what was once so great about this series in its final hour. Instead, they hit the restart button allowing Gregory House to do exactly what Wilson and Foreman apparently didn't want for their friend: an opportunity to escape his demons once again.

Community, "Digital Estate Planning/The First Chang Dynasty/Introduction to Finality" – Final Examinations

Communitys3f

This last week, before we were certain that Community was picked up for a fourth season and rumors were spiraling that it had been cancelled, I spoke to a classmate of mine about the evolution of this series, and she told me that she had given up post-"Critical Film Studies" due to what Dan Harmon had made this show up to be. According to her, or at least according to what she thought she was seeing transpire, it was if these characters didn't matter anymore and all that did matter was trying to 'one up' "Modern Warfare" every chance they got. She didn't think all of these conceptual episodes were bad (she mentioned her love for "Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas"), but they weren't part of a show she thought she was tuning in for throughout season one. This wasn't simply a show about community college misfits anymore, and she was right. After hearing what she had to say, I began to see where she was coming from, and I took a look back at some late season two episodes. It was only then that I realized that what differentiates the conceptual episodes from season two and season three is that this year's conceptual episodes were integral to the season's overall arc. You couldn't have gotten to "Introduction to Finality" without "Remedial Chaos Theory" or "Virtual Systems Analysis." You couldn't have gotten to "The First Chang Dynasty" without "Basic Lupine Urology." And you certainly couldn't have gotten to "Digital Estate Planning" without "Advanced Gay," although that happened to be one of the most 'normal' installments of this peculiar third season. Last night's three-episode finale might not have had the most perfect flow from one to the next, but they each conquered what they had set out to do, and "Introduction to Finality" marked the beginning of the end in a plethora of different ways.

Revenge, "Grief" - A Merciless Master

Revenge121

Last night's episode of Revenge was beyond predictable and immensely melodramatic, and yet, I sort of loved it. Before this show entered into my life, I didn't consider myself a fan of the soap genre, but this show does it better than any other show on television. It's not trying to do it differently, and I think that's why people have gravitated to it. It's familiar, but with a slight twist and a strong cast, and like me, I'm willing to bet that most of you are just itching to see next week's season finale given the cliffhanger we were left on. In "Grief," Victoria took the next step towards destroying Conrad only to give up that plan to secure Daniel's loyalty, Jack and Emily shared a kiss (as seen by Ashley through a nearby window) as Sammy the immortal dog passed away beside them, and Nolan stepped in to prevent Emily from destroying her life by going after David Clarke's killer himself without a weapon by his side. Needless to say, Nolan brought a knife to a gun fight, figuratively not literally.

#Upfronts2012 - The CW Announces its 2012/2013 Prime Time Schedule: A Final Season for 'Gossip Girl' and a Completely New Schedule with Scattered Premieres

I haven't watched any of The CW's programming since the network's 2006 launch, so I don't have much to say about this schedule. All I know is how confusing a completely new schedule with ninety-percent of shows facing time slot changes and late premieres is going to be for their core demographic who they're lucky are even tuning in live these days! Way to dig yourself into a deeper hole, CW! See their 2012/2013 prime time lineup after the jump.

#Upfronts2012 - CBS Announces its 2012/2013 Prime Time Schedule: '2 Broke Girls' to Anchor Mondays, 'Men' to Thursdays, 'Mentalist' to Sundays, and No Comedy Expansion

CBS has announced their 2012/2013 prime time lineup this morning, and while there aren't all that many changes, the changes they are making are bold and worthwhile for the continued success of the network. For starters, the rumored comedy expansion on Thursdays is a no-go. Instead, CBS has decided to let 2 Broke Girls anchor their Monday night lineup next year where it will surely grow into an even bigger hit with American audiences. As a result, Two and a Half Men is being shipped to Thursdays for season ten to help The Big Bang Theory solidify CBS' Thursday night comedy presence (and dominance) in the eight o'clock hour. The fate of bubble comedy and CBS veteran Rules of Engagement is still unknown at this time, but we can safely say that it won't be securing its post-Theory time slot back anytime soon! See CBS' full prime time schedule for next season after the jump.

#Upfronts2012 - ABC Announces its 2012/2013 Prime Time Schedule: 'Revenge' to Sundays, 'Happy Endings' and 'B----' to Tuesdays, and a TGIF Revival in November

ABC has announced its prime time schedule for their 2012/2013 season this morning, and just as expected, the network is taking some bold risks in an effort to turn some of this past year's freshmen into ceritified sophomore hits, with Revenge taking over Desperate Housewives Sundays at 9pm time slot and Tim Allen's Last Man Standing being shifted to Fridays at 8pm in an attempt to revive TGIF.

Two and a Half Men, "Oh Look! Al-Qaeda!" - One Nation, Under Taterhead!

Thm924
In what has largely been a Jake-free season of Two and a Half Men, one that placed his character off to the side in favor of establishing Walden's place in this developed sitcom world, it only seemed proper to have tonight's finale, "Oh Look! Al-Qaeda!" focus on Jake and his future after high school. While we were all probably assuming so, it was confirmed tonight that neither Jake nor Eldridge will be attending college next year, and that has Alan, Judith and Lyndsey understandably worried for their sons' future. Luckily, Alan and Walden are best buds (right?), and Judith and Lyndsey want Alan to weasel Jake and Eldridge's way into jobs at Walden and Billy's new internet startup. Fortunately, Billy is kind enough to hire these two go-getters potheads to watch after one of their hardware control rooms overnight. Unfortunately, Jake and Eldridge have been left alone with thousands of hard drives filled with RAM, and hundreds of thousands of possible sources for illegal pornography on the internet! Needless to say, they quickly lose their jobs, but not before downloading virus-filled content to all of Walden and Billy's servers! And now they'll truly have to fend for themselves. And yes, it's okay to start worrying! Fortunately, there's one line of duty that'll give anybody a job at just about any level of intelligence, and that's our nation's army. Be afraid. Be very afraid!

How I Met Your Mother, "The Magician's Code (Parts 1 and 2)" - Do You Believe in Magic?

Himym-s7finale

"Last chance to run away together. Doors' right there." - Barney

Waitforit... Eriksen! Marvin Waitforit Eriksen. No, that's his middle name. Really! In last night's How I Met Your Mother season finale, Marshall and Lily welcomed their son, Marvin (named after Marshall's father) into the world, Barney's bride was revealed and it was Robin, and Ted drove off into the sunset with Victoria. The End! She must be the titular mother and the show is over forever, right!? Wrong. I hate to burst your bubble, folks, but we've already been told that Ted meets his own future bride-to-be at Uncle Barney's wedding, and unless Future Ted is in the midst of an acid trip, there's no way he could have possibly confused when he met Victoria. He met her back in 2006, and she is not the mother. But before I discuss Ted and Victoria any further, did I mention Robin is Barney's bride-to-be? And did I mention we skipped ahead 'a little ways down the road' after watching Barney propose to Quinn in the midst of an airport security interrogation? No? Oh, well there was that!
